Joseph Michael Medwick was born November 24, 1911 in Carteret, New Jersey. Tough and gruff, outfielder Medwick’s competitive spirit typified the rowdy “Gashouse Gang” Cardinals of the 1930s. He was nicknamed “Ducky” because of his waddling gait. Medwick also played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, and Boston Braves.
