On March 2, 1948 Stan Musial ended his hold out by signing a contract for $31,000 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Stanley Frank Musial was born November 21, 1920 in Donora, Pennsylvania. His father, Lukasz, was a Polish immigrant; his mother, Mary, was the daughter of Czech immigrants. Musial started his career as a pitcher but after a shoulder injury he moved to the outfield while playing in Class C in the minor leagues. On his 19th birthday, he married Lillian Labash, and they have four children. He made his ML Debut September 17, 1941. His primary position throughout his career was Left Fielder but he also played some First Base. Stan, however, was primarily known as a hitter.
